News:
A boy who was apparently bullied for years was sucker punched by two of his classmates which resulted in his death.
A video that circulated on social media showed the boy being both hit in the face and from behind before falling and hitting his head on the ground.
They boys involved were charged with manslaughter and given 150 hours of community service.
This story has caused a lot of uproar with the leniency of the verdict. What do you think about it?
Possible Questions/Discussions:
Minors should be given the same treatment as adults
Rehabilitation is the best path forward.
Severe punishment (Prison) would be a stronger deterrent.
What would be the best way to deter kids from doing things like this?
It’s a school’s responsibility to take bullying seriously/get involved.
The teachers, principal etc. are as guilty as the two boys.
The judge’s ruling has taught kids they can get away with murder.
The school system has taken power away from teachers so It’s impossible to discipline students due to fear of repercussions (being sued etc.)
