Topic: CVs / Resumes

Introduction:
CV is the commonly used term in the UK, Ireland, and some parts of Europe. It stands for ‘curriculum vitae’ – Latin for ‘course of life’.

Resume, also spelled résumé, is the common term in the US and Canada. It comes from the French word for ‘summary’.

In some areas the two words may have some difference in meaning, but for the most part they can be used interchangeably.

Examine the example CV, and consider with your classmates its effectiveness at providing the relevant information.

Vocabulary:
GPA: (n.) a number that shows a student’s average scores
short-staffed: (adj.) having too few staff
impact: (n.) a noticeable effect or influence
implication: (n.) something suggested indirectly
metric: (n.) a system or standard of measurement
quantify: (v.) express or measure the quantity of
benchmark: (v.) compare something against a standard
tailor: (v.) change to suit a particular purpose or person.

Part 3: Analysis and Discussion
Examine the example CV, and analyse its quality with your classmates. Use both the points mentioned in part 1 and what you learned from the video to inform your discussion.
