Topic: Team Building
Part 1: The Purpose of Team Building
Team building activities have now become an essential part of company culture. In today's world, if a business needs to thrive, then the first and foremost requirement is having a culture of teamwork within the organization.
Part 2: Team Building Exercise: ‘Lost at Sea’
You are adrift on a private yacht in the South Pacific. After a sudden fire, much of the yacht and its contents have been destroyed. The yacht is now slowly sinking. Your location is unclear because of the destruction of critical navigational equipment. You guess you are approximately one thousand miles southwest of the nearest land.
There is a list of ten items that are intact and undamaged after the fire. In addition to these articles, you have a rubber life raft with oars large enough to carry yourself, the crew, and all the items listed below.
Your task is to rank the ten items in terms of their importance to your survival. Place the number 1 by the most important item, the number 2 by the second most important, and so on through number 10, the least important. Begin by doing this alone. Then you will discuss with your team to agree on a shared team ranking. Finally, the teacher will reveal the best ranking as recommended by the US Coast Guard and calculate your score.
