This week we are looking at making small talk, which is very important when building relationships at work.
Part 1 – Making small talk
Building rapport – a friendly, harmonious relationship – with people is key to developing good business relationships. We’re going to start with some examples of questions and answers that are useful for keeping conversations going.
Part 2: Response practice
Take two minutes to look through the provided phrases, and then turn your worksheet over. The teacher will say/ask the phrases. Try to answer them accordingly. Listen carefully to the words in the phrases. Pick out key vocabulary to help you with your responses.
Part 3: Ways to end a conversation
Knowing how to end a conversation naturally is as important as knowing how to start a conversation. You want to avoid appearing like you are bored, uninterested, or want the conversation to end. There are three common words used to signal the end of conversations. Write two examples using anyway, well, and let’s.
