Topic: Writing emails
Lesson: The body of the email
This week we are looking at emails. Lots of the language is formulaic and we’ll be covering important language to know and remember, and some rules regarding etiquette.
Part 1 – Discussion
- Why is the subject line important?
- When should you address people by their full name?
Part 2 – Saying ‘hello’
There are many ways of addressing someone at the beginning of an email. The relationship between you and the person, their position in your/their company, and their gender are important to consider.
Part 3 – Formal vs. Informal
The language you use depends on who you are talking to. Change the presented formal phrases into informal ones and vice versa.
Part 4 – Purpose of the email
Choose the correct word for each phrase.
Part 5 – Closing remarks
It’s important to close the email appropriately. Try to think of three other phrases.
Part 6 – Writing practice
Practice writing an email about scheduling a meeting with one of your coworkers. You know this person well and have worked together for years. Use the language that we talked about today and add any other information you wish.
