Lesson: Complaints
This week we are looking at language used when complaining by email. Again, this language is very formulaic and useful to know in situations like complaining about service levels or product quality.
Part 1 – Subject
The subject line should be clear and concise. It can be a reference number, or a couple of words summing up what the email is about. Using the examples, create four examples, or think of other common subject lines.
Part 2 – Purpose
The language used in an email is often formulaic. Below are some examples of common email patterns in Japanese. Try to think of the English equivalent. Afterwards, we’ll discuss your ideas.
Part 3 – Email flow
• Who are you writing to?
• What is the purpose of the email?
• Why are you complaining?
• What evidence do you have?
• What would you like them to do?
• When/how do you want them to respond?
Part4 – Writing activity
Write an email complaining about a product, service, project, delay, etc. Incorporate vocabulary from today’s lesson
