Part 1: English-Only Companies
Read an article and discuss English as a primary business language.
• How did you feel when you heard Rakuten staff have to use only English at work?
• Would this change be possible at your company?
• Would you choose to work at a company where English is the main language?
• Do you think this experiment will fail or become more common in the future?
Part 2: Problems and Benefits
With your partner, brainstorm a list of problems and benefits to using only English in a Japanese company.
Part 3: Debate
You will prepare and debate the topic in small groups.
