Topic: Work plan
Lesson: Describing goals
When April approaches, so does the end of the fiscal year and the beginning of another. Around this time of year, meetings are a great place to talk about goals for the upcoming year and what has happened over the last year. It’s good to have a plan for the upcoming year, so this week we will look at how to write these plans down.
Part 1: Discussion questions
Part 2.1: Explaining the background
After introducing the reasons for the meeting, it’s a good idea to go over some things that have happened over the past year. Reasons for the plan could be statistics, problems that need solving, building on past plans, responding to feedback and/or criticism or innovation. There are some useful English patterns that are used to explain the goings-on in a company.
Part 2.2: Explaining the goals
This is the ultimate goal or goals of the plan. Here you want to outline what you are going to do and how you are going to do it. Just like the last activity, you have some useful patterns that you can use when you are articulating your plans to a group. First, you can state the overall goal and then the method in which you’ll achieve it. The method can consist of many steps, culminating in a series of steps that need to be taken to achieve the final goal.
