Lesson: Rules and Regulations
Rules and regulations are present in any workplace. However, some workplaces can have stricter (or stranger!) rules and regulations than others.
Part 1: Discussion questions
1. What strict rules and regulations does your company have?
2. What is the strangest or most annoying rule that you have heard about at a workplace?
Part 2.1: Useful language
There are some useful phrases that we can use to describe a rule or regulation that a company or office has. However, some of the phrases sound stronger than others. Which ones are stricter and which are less strict?
Part 2.2: Advising someone
We’re going to look at common phrases used to advise someone against something or teach someone about the rules of the company.
Part 3: Roleplay
In pairs, students will roleplay as a coworker talking with a new employee. The coworker will explain company rules / policy to the new employee, and the new employee will ask questions. Use the phrases we studied today in your conversation.
