Hi everyone! I hope you're all alive with all of this heat! I know my AC and fan are keeping me alive...
Being a Brazilian, I often get asked
"Which is hotter, Brazil or Japan?"
And I know all of the Kyoto people who ask that are already expecting me to say "Japan"... and they're right! At least compared to my hometown, Curitiba, Kyoto is without a doubt a much hotter city.
But it might not be a fair comparison, since Curitiba is in the South of Brazil (close to Argentina!), so it is cooler than other regions, such as Rio de Janeiro or Bahia. I know Rio De Janeiro's Summer can get as high as 40 degrees, but Curitiba's is often around 24-29 degrees.
So, yes, it's been very hard to handle the heat in Kyoto! I generally love the weather in Kyoto, other than Summer. Autumn is particularly great; the city looks great, it's cool and cozy, and I feel like I can wear my favorite clothes. I just wish it was like that all year...
By the way, this is the most popular park in my hometown during the Summer! You can see a man has taken off his shirt to cool off... Not something you see everyday in Japan. I don't know what this man would do if he had to deal with the Summer in Kyoto. But let's try not to imagine it too hard.
