It was my birthday recently and, as a surprise present, I was taken to a private pottery class. When we arrived at this regular looking house, we were greeted by a very friendly old man who guided us down to the back of his house where he had a separate building filled to the brim with beautiful bowls, plates and all sorts of clay creations.
It was my first time ever using a potter’s wheel so I was quite nervous, but as soon as I began working the clay my worries instantly vanished. It was really satisfying to see this bowl beginning to form from the ball of clay that started there.
The teacher was always giving really useful advice, and the way he knew exactly where there were issues and how to fix them really impressed me. It was clear to me that he had dedicate a lot of his life to the craft, and as a fellow artist I was greatly inspired. I hope to one day have as close a relationship to art as he does.
This year, I’m gonna create a lot of art!
